SHERELAN
Born in South Carolina near Greenville, at an AF base that no longer
exists. Youngest of 4 kids. Moved to Lajes AFB in the Azores when I was
7. Spent three of the happiest years of my life there. Ran away from
home at age 8 because no one told me the base was on an island. This
after leaving a crayoned message (it was orange) for my mother and
sister that they weren?t any good. :p Came back a few hours later when
it started to rain and I got hungry.
Freedom disappeared when we moved to Omaha in the Stone Age. We were
there for a year then went to St. Louis. My sinuses were never the same
again. Graduated in first class from the new McCluer North High School
in Florissant. (It?s no longer in operation. Hmmm.)
Went to Mizzou at Columbia in the fall. When I figured out, sometime in
junior year, that what I was majoring in required a master?s to get a
job paying less than most teachers (library science), I quit and went to
business school. Got a job in the Personnel department of the St. Louis
County Police Dept.
Had to get out of St. Louis before either the weather or my allergies
got me. I joined the Navy, went to broadcast and print journalist
schools, and spent the next 7 years in the Caribbean. Met my first
husband in broadcast school. We went to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and had two
boys, Tony and Christopher. Then on to Roosvelt Roads, PR. Had a great
time hauling heavy video gear around and directing TV newscasts for Navy
Broadcasting Service. (Now I look at those little 2-ounce videocams
people use and my bursitis flares in protest. The video recorder I
carried in 1983 weighed 35 lbs.)
Back stateside, I got out of the Navy and spent a year being mom. We
were stationed in Great Lakes, IL just outside Chicago. Then he was
assigned to the Abraham Lincoln (aircraft carrier) based then in
Alameda, CA. We came out here in 1991, divorced a few years ago. I
worked at a medical diagnostics research company in Alameda for 11
years, was let go this past June when my human resources rep job was
eliminated.
I met Kevin (aka the Brat) online at Lightning Game Service where we
were both sysops (I was the Trivia sysop). He decided to come out here
to CA to look for a job since there was nothing in his neck of the woods
in upstate Noo Yawk. When he got off the plane, that was It. LOL We?re
getting married on September 13 after having been together more than
five years. You want the really good news? Nancy Brown married John
Smith, dumb mistake. Now that Smith?s gone, she?s getting a much better
name: McDonald. :p
Not much more to tell, if you?re still with me this far. We have two
cats, Harlie and Sapph (short for Harlequin and Sapphire, you know how
high-falutin? cats think they are). Brat likes Dungeons & Dragons,
Warlords, football, going to the movies, going to rock concerts,
watching wrestling on TV. I like cross stitch, classic and foreign films
(I?m on a Kurasawa kick at the moment), collecting cat figurines,
reading (especially Terry Pratchett audio books), board games, cryptic
crossword puzzles and trivia.
Pay attention. You may be tested later. ;)
