Not mentioning any names but almost all of the above went to the casinos in
Atlantic City last night and some of them did very WELL, but of course they
didn't get back to the hotel this morning until 8AM and weren't seen among
the living until 4PM this afternoon.
Among those coming in this afternoon were ArwenR, Closr2Fine, mike, Will,

Bash Update :)
From: BILLP49 To: ALL
Since I last mentioned who was here, Chandra did come in last night and
tonight the Corks showed up.
Will finally left the conference room this morning about 9:30AM and
headed off to bed.
This afternoon Arlene led the movie matinee people off to see "Birdcage"
and from what I hear certain not to be named Triviots were almost thrown
out of the theatre due to their loud guffaws.
This evening people are being pizza and beered out. Rumors have it that
another Atlantic City casino run will be held later.

Congrats to StarkMad for running another very successful, fun bash.
As well as the many regulars at these events we had newbies to bashdoom
in the persons of Jono and Will as well as the Corks who some had met at the
St. Louis Bash.
I am home now and the most of the others are on their way.

Yup, Bill. I'm in agreement. It was another super BASH.
Thanks again to Stark for hassling with all of the details involved
with making the BASH arrangements, as well as thanks (in advance) to
Stark for going in tomorrow to plead our case with Port-O-Call management
over certain ...umm.... concerns that the Port-O-Call has regarding
events that may or may not have happened during the course of the weekend.
Finally, thanks to *all* of the Triviots (especially those from DELPHI)
who made this weekend one of the best ever. Whether it be in Ocean City,
Washington or somewhere else, I again can't wait for the next BASH.
Mark :D
PS... Congratulations to Suzanne1 (DBROCCO) on making it through 10 BASHES!

RE: OC BASH 6 :) (Re: Msg 25989)
From: HOWARDAT To: BILLP49 (NR)
I want to add my thanks to Stark for running another great bash (without
Sarah's help this time!), and thanks also to everybody who attended. You all
made it a great weekend. Joanne and I had a really great time. Highlights
for us were:
The riotous (sp?) trip to the Birdcage; I have never had so much fun *waiting*
for a movie to start, and it only got better after the movie started, with
Robin Williams and Nathan Lane taking over for Arlene, Ricken and others in
providing the laughs. But you guys came close...
The Comet, whatever its unpronounceable name is. Small and fuzzy though it
may be, it was the first comet I have ever actually seen and been able to say,
yes, I saw a comet, not just a little dot of light that everybody says is a
comet. This thing definitely looks different.
Finding out, through being in the wrong places at the wrong time on Sunday
morning, just what the Port-O-Call management and housekeeping staff *thinks*
happened at the bash. Believe me, it bears little resemblance to the real
thing. What I want to know is, how many weeks or months was the phone outlet
cover missing from the Delaware Room before they noticed it was missing and
decided one of *us* took it. And we won't even talk about what they think was
going on in the conference room downstairs...
However, uptight housekeepers aside, it was a great bash! Good pizza, good
beer and most of all, great friends! Thanks again everybody!

============= and here it is ========================================
as many of you know, i am a member of the trivia forum staff on america
online. i am an active participant in the trivia games on america online
and on delphi. periodically, we triviots (as we describe ourselves) get
together for a "bash" - one popular bash site is ocean city, new jersey,
since one of our core members was a long-time resident of that town.
last weekend, the online triviots gathered for the seventh time in ocean
city, and we spent many happy hours talking, drinking, and playing various
trivial games. traditionally, i am in charge of the ritual trip to the
casinos on saturday afternoons. however, this weekend was different! i
noticed that resorts was holding a $50 buy-in stud tournament ($40 +10
entry). since i don't play in a lot of tournaments, i quickly realized
that this would be *terrific* practice for next week's "atlarge" tournament!
i sent e-mail to all the triviots who intended to be at the bash, inviting
them to invest in my action! much to my surprise, i received responses
to such an overwhelming degree that i could have actually styled myself
as max bialystock (the zero mostel character in mel brooks' "the producers")!
so, i had to limit each person to a maximum investment of two dollars!
we all arrived on friday night, and i was prepared with a "shareholder"
list, and stock certificates which i had concocted on my computer! each
certificate was signed by me in three places (using the various screennames
under which i run and play trivia games: TIGER123, CecilBDMil, and Imalefty),
and was also counter-signed by me (using my real name as the notary public)!
i quickly sold out 80% of my action (twenty investors at two bucks apiece),
and was eagerly awaiting the new day!!
the resorts stud tournament format generally issues T200 for buy-ins of
$30 and $40, and T300 for buy-ins of $50. here is the structure:
stage wager ante bring-in time
1 5/10 5 dealer* 5 20
2 10/20 10 dealer* 5 20
3 15/30 15 dealer* 5 20
4 25/50 5 per player 10 20
5 50/100 10 15 20
6 75/150 15 20 20
7 100/200 20 25 20
*** ten minute break ***
8 150/300 25 50 15
9 200/400 50 75 15
10 300/600 75 100 20
11 500/1000 100 150 25
12 *** to be determined by tournament director ***
* in the early stages, a button designates the "dealer",
who is required to ante for the entire table.
seating is limited to a maximum of 80 players, and the payoffs for
50 or more is as follows: 1st - 42%; 2nd - 21%; 3rd - 11%;
4th - 8%; 5th - 6%; 6th - 5%; 7th - 4%; and 8th - 3%.
the tournament was not quite full - we had 77 players - and began
precisely on time. i didn't recognize anyone at my table, but i
got a definite feeling that several players at my table were very
experienced players. on the first hand, a high card in late position
raised, and was called by a nervous young man. the high card continued
to bet throughout the hand, and showed aces up at the river. the nervous
guy mucked, but it was pretty obvious to all that he was going uphill all
the way. on the second hand, i'm the low card. a medium card calls, and
so does a high card. i look down and see two sevens in the hole. on
4th street, the high card has gotten another high card, and the caller now
has two spades. the high card checks, and i bet - two calls. on 5th
street, the high card gets another high card, and checks. i check, and so
does the flush draw. on 6th street, the high card doesn't help, i get my
third seven, and the flush doesn't help. the high card bets, i raise, and
the flush draw slowly calls. the high card looks at my cards, thinks, looks
at the flush draw, thinks, and makes a crying call. on the river, the high
card checks blind. i don't help and check. the flush draw mucks. i show
down my trips, but the high card squeezes.......and buys a bellycard to
make a broadway straight. :::::sigh:::::
on the next round, i raise with high pairs twice and win the antes. i
then raise with a high card in next-to-last position, and the nervous
young man is my only caller. i bet my kings all the way, but he's got
a pair in the hole, and calls me all the way. he makes a second pair on
the river to win the hand. :::::sigh:::::
when it's 15/30, i've got split queens with a nine, and i'm the second
player to limp-in. a king raises and gets two callers. on 4th street,
i make split queens and nines; king bets, other player calls, and i raise.
two calls. on 5th, there's no obvious help, and the king bets (not a bad
play if i had raised to get a free card). other guy calls, and i raise.
two calls. on 6th, it's check and check; i bet; call and call. on the
river, it's check and check; i show down my two pair to win the hand.
later in that round, i try to steal with a high card in last position
against the bring-in - he calls me. i continue to get high cards, and
he continues to call. i check on the river and he wins the pot with his
pair of nines in the hole. :::::sigh:::::
next round, i limp-in under the gun with aces in the hole. a short-
stacked king raises and there's another caller. i re-raise and they
both call. i bet on 4th - two calls - and i bet on 5th - just one caller
now. on 6th, he's still checking to me and i bet. i don't hear him say
"all in" when he calls, and i'm not watching his stack. on the river, he
shows his sixes in the hole, and i try to bet my last $10; i apologize
for not hearing his earlier declaration, and show my aces to win the pot.
next round (50/100), two aces and a king have already folded. i'm the
high card with split 10s and a queen. i raise, and am called by another
10. on 4th street, i get a jack, and he gets a three. i bet and he calls.
on 5th street, nothing happens; bet and call. on 6th street, we both
get dead 7s; bet and call. on the river, i don't help and check. he also
checks, and i show down my tens. he says, "yeah, i've got tens, too,....."
but he's made another three on the river to win (my queen was the best
kicker up to that point). :::::sigh:::::
i'm now seriously short-stacked. i raise with a k(qj) against the bring-in,
who calls. i make a 9 on fourth street, and bet. he calls. on 5th street,
he's made a running pair of sevens and bets. since i only have one-and
one-tenth bets in my stack (and a back-door three-flush), i call. he makes
two open pair on 6th, and i throw in my last red chip. i don't help, and
he wins with two pair: he had tens in the hole. :::::sigh:::::
i finish about 35th or so.
i play live 5/10/15 poker for about 90 minutes until some friends show up,
and win $70. since i'm a net winner, upon my return to the trivia bash,
i offer each of my shareholders the opportunity to get back their $2 if
they'll return the stock certificate! nobody does!! :)
i had lots of fun in the tournament, gained some valuable experience,
and learned a very important lesson: unless you win more than one big pot
on each round, you are *always* one or two hands away from elimination.
i can't wait until next week!! see you all "atlarge"!!!! :)

Let me add my name to those who have expressed appreciation to Mark for]
his efforts and hassle-absorption with regard to the Bash. Despite not being
at my best for a number of reasons, I had a very good time. It was good to
see people again---as well as to see for the first time those I had never seen
before. I trust the die was already cast one way or the other by the time
last night rolled around as reagrds the possibility of our returning to the
Port-O-Call in the future. If anyone was staying there last night besides me,
they undoubtedly heard the whoop I let out when my ex-student Mira Sorvino
won her Oscar. Anyway, that place is absolutely DEAD, I mean a GRAVEYARD, on
Weekdays. I should think they'd pay us to come there and liven things up
for them!
Thanx again, Mark!

I'd like to thank those of you who helped out so much
at OC Bash 6! I wouldn't dare try to list everybody,
since I'd be sure to inadvertently leave somebody out.
Special thanks are due to:
-those who helped set up the conference

-the guys who helped me unload those 14
cases of soda
-those who helped tidy up the PA room after
we demolished it
-those who lugged their computers to OC for
all to use
-the non-smoking conference room maintenance
crew
-those who made trips to the liquor store
when we were low on brew
-Toivirt for taking care of my brain
Despite the fact that Sparky stood me up for our big
Sunday night date, I'd also like to thank him for acting
as my taxi-driver.
All the help not only made this Bash successful, but also
meant that I had more time to enjoy myself, and for this

I also would like to say a heartfelt "thank you" to Stark for
all the work he does so that i and others may enjoy ourselves
by "Bashing". It was a year ago that i attended my first Bash
and Stark practically had to hold my hand so that i wouldn't
get anxious. Therefore, i *think* he may believe me when i say
that "it wasn't me" that did anything that would cause the
management of any hotel (or any theater for that matter!) to call
him on the carpet. However, i do feel it is my duty to let
Stark know that the "locals" in the movie theater did recognize
that there were people "who weren't from around here" in their
midst. :) Do you think Triviots laugh too hard or too
knowingly??!! Maybe it is a good thing that Stark doesn't live
there anymore. (BTW, at the Bash, i was given a tour of Stark's
homepage by Ricken. It does explain alot but i think it is
unfair that he places all the blame for how he turned out on his
sister Carol, or maybe we should praise her considering what she
had to work with. (Just kidding.) )
Anyway, it was great to see old friends and to meet new ones. (I
think that was what i was doing.) I have been so confused since
i returned. My clock remained on Bash time far too long.
Recovery always takes so long when I return to the ugly reality
of my job and all the changes taking place with managed care.
But i digress from what i want to say, which is "THANK YOU
STARK". I hope you didn't mean it when you called it the final
chapter.

I'd just like to add my thanks to Stark for doing another masterful job of
organizing a bash..Thanks for all the hard work. As usual, it paid
off with an excellent weekend...
..Hey, maybe we were a little rowdy, but that's what bashes are supposed
to be like, right?
As always, I had a great time...Great seeing all the old faces again, fun
seeing some new ones...
Probably the most exciting event of the weekend, for me, was the agony and
ecstasy of first thinking Ocean Blues was closed, and then finding out it
was not only open, but had moved to a bigger place...
For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, Ocean Blues is this
CD store that stocks all kinds of hard-to-find stuff at low prices..In fact,
the owner of the store gives a special discount to Triviots, since we're
such faithful customers from the bash each year...
This time, upon arrving at the store in Margate (near OC), we saw a big sign
in the window saying "For sale or rent.." It looked like the worst had
happened..
But my group, led by the indomitable Norden, got out of the car to check and
saw a little sign in the window with the store's new address..After asking
directions at least three times, we were very pleased to find
the store at its expanded,
spiffy new shopping plaza location in Linwood...We were also happy to see
that another vanload of triviots, led by Closr, had also managed to find the
store, arriving at the same time we did..
Not being a gambling man, it was my only expedition away from OC, and it had
a thick plot, suspense, and a happy ending. We were allowed to spend our
cash... :)

The reason the secoond vanload of triviots, led by myself, was able to
find the new location of Ocean Blues is that we happened to have a Stark
