Key West Bash Newsletter No. 1
     From: FORTUNAT0 To: ALL

KW2K - The Official Newsletter of the Key West 2000 Bash - Vol. 1
June 16, 17, 18 2000

Hello Triviots and others - welcome to the first infoletter of the first bash
held in a foreign country, Key West 2000.

HOTEL
I just got back from an all too brief visit to Key West, at which time I
visited the manager of the Southernmost Motel, Jennifer Smat. She showed me
around the grounds, and the rooms that I've reserved as the bash suite. We have the
third floor of one of three buildings, which consist of two deluxe bedrooms
(one of which I'll be staying in) and an Efficiency apartment. Most of the
hotel was renovated last year, and the room she showed us was very nice. There
is ample parking for anyone driving down US1 or renting a car while down there.
(there is a car rental across the street.) The hotel also rents bicycles and
scooters, which is a far smarter way to get around such a small place as Key
West. There are two pools, each equipped with that most vital of poolside
accessories, a Tiki Bar.

The reservation deadline has been extended to MAY 15. Please let me know when
you have made your room reservation. The hotel's reservation number is
1-800-354-4455 and the group name is ONLINE TRIVIA CLUB. Remember, the rate is
still $89 per night until May 15

DINNER
Friday dinner will be held at the Key West Seafood Buffet on Duval Street. Its
an all you can eat buffet with both Seafood and Landfood, so everybody should
be able to find an enjoyable dinner. The cost is $19.95 plus drinks. Plus
drinks will be a recurring theme of this bash. Hopefully, lots of drinks.

Saturday dinner is still TBD.

ACTIVITIES
SEBAGO water sports runs a sunset catamaran cruise around Key West harbor
nightly. Its a three hour cruise (now where have I heard that before?) and for
$30 includes unlimited beer, wine and soft drinks. If enough people are
interested, we may be able to get a group rate.
They also run daily snorkeling trips out to the living coral reefs.

THE CONCH TOUR TRAIN and OLD TOWN KEY WEST TROLLEY TOUR
a narrated, 90 minute tour around the streets of Key West. Its a great way to
start your tour, and decide what sights you want to see.

THE BEACH-The hotel is half a block from the public beach on the Atlantic side.

SHOPPING - Duval street is a great place to get rid of all that nasty dirty
money. A TIP - there are many shops that sell T-Shirts. Some of them are run by
what I would charitably call "sharp operators." If I were less charitable, I'd
call them scam artists and crooks. Beware of anybody offering you anything for
free. They'll give you the T-shirt for free, and charge you $10-15 for the iron
on decal. Or some other scam. GET THE PRICE UP FRONT .

Other than that warning, Key West is shopping heaven. A lot of stores cater to
the tourist and cruise ship trade, and they like to keep us happy.

MUSEUMS
The Mel Fischer sunken treasure museum.
Hemmingway House (complete with polydactyl cats in residence)
Key West Aquarium (small, but interesting)
Harry Truman's summer White House
Key West Shipwreck Historeum
Ripley Believe it Or Not Odditorium

Bars. Um, yes, I think there might be a few.

The Sunset. Its as beautiful as people have described, and its been described as
the most beautiful on the planet. Best places to see it: Mallory Square and
Sunset Pier, or on a boat.

BASH FEES
My plan for financing the bash turned out not to have any real earnings
potential, so we're going to do this the old fashioned way. The bash fee is $25
US. (No Arwen, we are not accepting Canadian Tire Dollars. ) This will pay for
the Bash Suite, Beer and Soda, coffee and breakfast (muffins, rolls, etc.)

     Key West Bash Countdown!!!
     From: FORTUNAT0 To: ALL

Well, less than two weeks to the bash. Time to get our game faces on!!!!

A Few Questions:

1. Are you going to be there?

(If not, please skip to the end and write a 3500 word explanation of why not.
Please include 17 eight by 10 glossy pictures with circles and arrows and a
paragraph on the back of each.)

There. Now that those people have been disposed of:

2. When are you arriving in Key West? (Day and estimated Time)

3. Have you made your reservation yet? (a few rooms are still available)

4. If you have not sent your bash fee yet, I have a PayPal account set up. Just
go to PayPal.com, and send your payment to bengfer@tceng.com.
Or else, bring cash to the bash. Cash is always welcome.
(The Key West Police don't take bail money through PayPal)

Activities

Since key west has so many activities, I'd like to get an idea of what people
would like to do. Here are some of the more popular ones:

Sunset Sail
Snorkeling/Scuba
Tours
The Beach
Pub Crawling
Vegging out by the pool
Shopping
Other (now don't just say, Other, suggest something!)

A note about sunsets:

By special arrangement with the Key West Chamber of Commerce, Warner Brothers
studios and my contacts within the Trilateral Commission, the sun will set at
8:18 PM during the bashdays (weather permitting). Just part of the service,
folks.

Meals -

The first official bash dinner is on Friday at 8:30 pm at the Key West Seafood
Buffet, and will cost $19.95, plus whatever damage you do at the bar for an all
you can eat buffet.

The Saturday dinner will be at Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville cafe, at around the
same time.

I'll be checking into the Southernmost on Wednesday June 14, so anyone who needs
to reach me can get me there. I'll also have my pager on, (800) 800 7759, ask
for William Engfer at Chase Manhattan.

See you all in a few days!!!!!!!

     Key West Bash Countdown!!!
     From: RICKENBAKR To: ALL

Okay so here I am... still at home... still in NJ. I received a phone call from
Continental a little before 10:30am

--== Flight Canceled ==--

but they got me on the first flight out tomorrow (friday) morning. So! I had to
cancel my limo to the airport. Called limo HQ, told them I wouldn't need a car
since there's no flight. As I was hanging up with them, call waiting beeped, my
10:30am limo was 7 minutes early. Sorry guy... I have no where to go. Called the
hotel told them I'll be there on friday and told my catsitter that she doen't
have to come take care of my cats tonight. I called work to blame a co-worker
for my aero-misfortune, called mom to get a ride tomorrow morning to my NEW
flight (two hour lay-over in FLL if anyone wants to meet there that's not going t
o the bash, let me know we'll do an early lunch or soemthing), and now I'm j
ust sitting here.... still... in NJ... after I spent the entire morning rushing around
getting last minute things that I could very well have picked up last night but
didn't becuase I wanted to rush around this morning. Did I mention I'm STILL in NJ?

At least I have a flight to get me there tomorrow morning. At least I don't have
to spend $46 to get me to the airport. At least spend $46 to get to the airport
only to find that my flight was canceled and I had no way back home. At least I
still have my health, my home, and my sanity... well 2 outta three ain't bad.

more to come... if there's a comptuer I can get to down there... you know how
hard it is to find someone with a comtpuer at these bashes.

OK, I didn't get to go to the Bash at Key West, so I will try
to be around tonight to run some games if people are there.
Went to the airport at 11am this morning, flight was at 1:35pm,
at 3:30pm they put us on the plane and we taxied out to the
tarmac, at 5:30pm they brought us back to the terminal.
  Got home around 6:30pm.
A little costly, $60 to and from the airport, cancelled
reservation at Key West $88, air ticket $415.
Lesson: don't fly Delta, don't try to go to Key West.
Representative thinks my luggage may be back in 24 hours.

     From: MSWENSON To: RICKENBAKR (NR)

HIyas all:)
Well I did at least make to Key West. I got in about 6:30 to check in.
Sitting at the tiki bar waiting for someone I know walk by and looking for
Beng. Along walks Jean and a little bit later Beng and Beth. Took a nice
walk down Duvall street to scope out the stores and people gawk. Went to
the pier to watch the sunset but it was a little clouded over. So we
watched a pretty funny juggler on a 10 foot unicycle. Had some diner at the
Hilton, and walked on back. It's been a long day. So I'm beat.
Off to bed and see what we get planned for tomorrow.
Sorry to hear about the problems there Bill and Ricken.
Laters all:)

Opps, she just called me back and passed me off to a baggage

     18-JUN 22:14
     Some key west notes
     From: MSWENSON To: ALL

In case anyone is interested in what they may have missed during the fine
Key West Bash (KW2K). Bengfer did a excellent job on locating about the best
place to hold a bash. One block east, one block south after you leave the
motel and BAM!! You are at the southernmost place in the U.S.
Beng lined up two of the top floor semi-apartments for bash rooms. So much
room so few people. The only downside.

::: just a few little soon after getting home notes:::

Could have used a few more people to help us scout out the entire area. But
with the brave few we had. Beng and Beth, Randy and Babette, Jean, me, Russ,
Norden, Arlene, Ricken, Pete and Dawn and Rosemary. We set out on a journey
to a place that let's animals run loose and go to and do whatever they want.
And by the sights and sounds we saw. They let people do the same thing.

In either big or small groups alot of trips up and down Duval street were
made. In and out of bars and stores. Which ended up each early eve at
Mallory Square to watch the sunset. Which while we waited on that. We had
some great entertainment by jugglers magicians and one crazy guy painted
up in silver looking like a statue. Doing some fine mime work. There were
fortune tellers, guys dressed up as hooters girls you could get your picture
taken with. ( none from this group went for that as far as we know ) Even
though the clouds tried to take some of the sunset away it was still great.

Also during the day before the trek to the pier. Many of us took a tour of
Old Town on the Trolley. We tossed the first trolley driver off and ended up
with a guy that was perfect for the crowd. "Louis" was hilarious and also
pretty interesting to listen to for the history lesson. While still keeping
his eye's as blurred as they were by vodka and orange juice on the road.
Some things we learned... the highest recorded temp. in Key West was 97 deg.
and a trolley horn and somebody blowing on a conch shell are two different
things.

:: a few things I noticed::

Everybody got lai'd by Norden, stay away from Norden. Coming to a bash from
from Hawaii does things to some people.( for the record Jean got lai'd first)
If one gray cloud shows up it may sprinkle and it gets humid again.
Don't wear tennis shoes to the southernmost marker if the wind is out of
the east.
If a guy has a sign that says "dirty jokes 50 cents, I need the beer money"
Give him the money and tell him a joke instead.
If you go into the "Scrub Club" you are not looking to get cleaned up.
If you can't find Jean either look for a free sample place for anything
keylime related.
If a white lab comes strolling out from behind the tiki bar looking like
the one you left at home... it might be time to move.
NO need to rent a skooter or bike, everything is just one block over.
For a great breakfast go to "Alice's La-Te-Da" for a fine meal, pull up
a seat about anywhere.
If you are looking for a used ceiling fan, this is the place to go.
If you are looking for a nice view of the sunrise go to bed early. (never
saw it and don't know what it looks like).
If you are looking for a stupid answer to a stupid question. Don't ask Louis
if there will be another sunset tonight or how long is the 7 mile bridge.
If you weren't born there you are known as a fresh water conch.
I could ramble on for awhile now...
But if you wanted to have a good time. maybe there will be a next one????
If you want to see a great sunset and have fun on a catamaran cruise.
Go.
Next time snorkeling, the bi-plane ride, parasailing, passing out on Duval
Street with a cup in my hand asking for beer money, another omelete at
la-te-da's and get cleaned up at the scrub club.( if only I could play a
guitar)

WTG BENG!! Had a great time...

Ziggy

is there. They didn't know what to do with it so they looked up
my phone number.
She is going to mark it "RUSH" and have it sent up here and

     After Bash
     From: RCWKID To: ALL

Hey gang,

After a long plane flight, I finally made it in to the home-20
at 10pm last night. The flights were on time, full, and was
served dinner twice on different planes...it was teh same meal
too...sigh... er the

Just gotta say muchas thankus to Beng fer putting the bash together
and keeping it alive.. KW is a warm, tropical place, gobs of
sun and surf, shopping, scantily clad babes, and dining. Too
bad about many other folks travel plans, but perhaps next round
we'll see more of the gang of seven...

I think I actually understand the unwritten rule about sleeping
on bash weekends. The rule says: There is no sleeping on bash
weekends. That's what plane flights are for.:)

Anyway, we had a great time, great company, and lots of spending.

Can't wait to do it all again...Yayayay

laters,
Russ
