OldGeezer -- An Appreciation
I first met Jack over on AOL in 1992, I think it was; he had discovered
the Trivia Club and was spending a lot of time there with much detriment
to his credit card. I had only seen him in games and laughed at some of
his comments until one day when I had been an SK for a game and was posting
the scores and he involved me in a discussion as to how to become an
SK so he could get some free time. Thus started his working for
the Club as well as enjoying the camaraderie of the games. At that time
his handle was CincyKid some months later he became OldGeezer. This
morning the Chief Editor of Delphi asked me why he choose that handle,
but I have no idea; I never thought to ask him.
Our shop here on Delphi opened on 27 May 1993 at 18:29. Jack
signed in less than six hours later on 28 May 1993 at 02:06. There are
two records in the membership rolls for him:
Member name: SOFTEKINC Real name: Jack Seward
Notes: Flags: CM
Date last on: 20-APR-1994 02:41 Joined: 28-MAY-1993 02:06
SOFTEKINC was an account that he had on Delphi for a number of years
but had rarely used until the Trivia Club opened here. In games he
played as .Oldgeezer. Later he took an Associate Account which later
became his primary account:

Jack was dedicated to seeing that our efforts here were successful.
He loved the games, the challenge, the camaraderie, the chance to say
something that would make people laugh.
When we began to pick up some steam, when we began to get some
regular members from the Delphi membership beyond the people we brought
over from AOL he took over the thankless task of being the game Host
trainer; spending hours cajoling, suggesting, helping newbies with their
macros and questions.
He was inventive. For a long time he was MR. HOST for Sunday nights
as he ran his MONTE CARLO NITE TRIVIA at 8PM and his NOT READY FOR RHYME
TIME TRIVIA at 10PM and later his "Surprise Trivia" in the same slot.
And then there were his SURVEY SEZ games.
He was witty. How many times we laughed at his puns.
He was technically competent. He uploaded Telemate to the database
and showed people how to use it for game Hosting. He wrote his script
for "audio hilighting" which was the first use of sounds here in our
area on Delphi and which facilitated the writing of the first general
purpose sound script. At the time of his death he was far along in writing
an automatic Hosting program to complement WinScore.
He was responsible. Over a year ago I made him the Assistant Manager
of our area so he could change the banners or assign free time when I
couldn't sign on. For a long time he had the responsibility for doing the
daily banners for the conference and forum areas. In July of this year
he had to take a leave of absence from his duties when he changed jobs
and had to get up to speed on his new job, but had just retaken them two
weeks ago. He was looking forward to helping with our transition to the
new service and platform.
This is one of those times when one wishes that one had a time machine
so one could go back a couple of days and type /send oldgeezer hey Jack
I really appreciate what you do for us :)
GOD, Geez it is hard to say farewell to someone one is used to seeing,
talking to, getting e-mail from, and laughing with almost every day of
the year.
