bash
From: 688_CLASS To: ALL
Hey all@!
I am looking forward to the bash and seeing everyone, and honestly hoping I
can manage to stay awake past 9pm.
The weather forecast is for mid 80-s with chances of t-storms thurs and fri.
For those of you flying in, the Embassy Suites has an Airport shuttle. In the
baggage claim area there will be a bank of phones, just pick up the embassy
suites one and they will tell you where to meet the van.
For those of you driving the complete directions can be gotten at the
embassy suites website, and have a map and everything.
I will be checking in as early Friday as they will let me and I will leave
the # of the bash room so it can be given to you as the rest of you check in.
For those of you getting in on Thursday, Manny and I will come down to the
hotel after he gets off work, and I would think the easiest thing would be to
meet in the lounge around 5pm or so. We can go to dinner and do those
thursday night things.
Looking forward to seeing everyone!
Thanks,
Liz

JUne bash
From: BTEITLER To: ALL
Hi ya folks....
Last month I posted a note to Liz concerning the June bash.
I just got back from 10 days at the NC beach, & I learned that due to my work
load, I can't attend the bash, I work as an Inventory Auditor for a Furniture
co, and their fiscal year ends 06/30, so I have to make sure all of those books
are closed by then ready for the bank auditors
I Really wanted to be there with you all, but maybe I can attend next years
bash if there is one.
If Bengfer attends have him save me some of his famous milk drinks!
Again..It's too bad I won't be there, but someday I will attend again.
I wanted to meet Manny & Liz,Heidi,as I have met most of the rest of you.
Hugs, Bruce

Any of you going to the bash via I-80? If yes, and you go through Brookville,
PA, let me know. Maybe on the return trip ... and if you feel like it ...
perhaps you might want to stop there and I could get a firsthand account of
the BASH revelry. Especially BillP49 who is traveling from N.J., and maybe
even some of you who may be driving down from New England?
Everyone going to the BASH have a really great time and don't do anything I
wouldn't... doesn't leave much leeway, hahaha. Enjoy! Lift a glass to me if
you get the chance; I will be in our heated pool sometime this weekend and
will wonder how the event is progressing. TaTa and Ciao!

Cant wait to see y'all there! ;)
BTW..anyone traveling on the interstate, I called the hotel and they said I270
is closed in several parts or at least some of the ramps are and they
told me to take I71 to Route 161 instead of I270. You can pick up Cleveland
Ave. from 161 and follow the rest of the directions the same.

I don't know how else to share this news. Bruce died yesterday, Thursday,

I don't know how much I'll be checking here, but if you want to get in touch

The start of things getting wrapped up here at the official bash site from
The Embassy Suites Hotel,in Columbus. <-- Columbus, Georgia? We have some
checking to do on the location. (began hours after dinner at Dick Clarks
American Bandstand) Many stories were told there and lot's of name tossing
around guessing the artist, year. And the occassional attempts at trying to
pry the gold record copies from the walls.
The golf outing was alot of fun and trips to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
were taken over the waht now seems like somewhat short weekend. Met some new
faces yet again as well I I did last year. And the news we lost a friend over
the weekend kinda put a sad note on things. BRUCE!!! I'll miss yas. Sandy if

Howdy Folks. I just got back to Louisville not too long ago.
Well, needless to say, my first bash didn't turn out the way I expected it.
I picked up some kind of bug while I was at my Mom's and I was sick the
whole time I was at the bash.
And to think,I didn't even drink one drop of alcohol.
Then I was greeted with the news about Bruce.
It was a hard weekend for me, but like I told Di, I was glad to be with the
whole group when the news came.I would've been a basketcase if home alone.
Bruce was very special to me and in turn, I to him.
Thank you to Liz and Manny for organizing and planning everything and for all
your hospitality!
Thank you to Rachel for being a great roomie and putting up with my cold

Thank you to Paul for being so funny, genuine, and kind.
You are wonderful! Did anyone ever tell you, you look like Elliot Gould..but
much more handsome?? I still think we could've gotten you into the Hall of Fame

Thank you to Ben for having lunch with me and listening to me gab when I first
got there. It was truly a pleasure to meet you and I enjoyed our talks.
Congratulations on your upcoming event as well(hint :))

Thank you to Arlene for having the patience to teach me how to play Hearts.

then again. Arlene did have that bondage table set up in her room. You are a
very sweet lady with lovely knots. ;)
Thank you to Rich for not running away entirely when we were introduced. You

Thank you to Rona for being a riot. You are so nice and funny. I'm glad you
made it out! Fellow virgins unite! *smooch*
Thank you to Adam for screaming out vulgar things about me in the theatre..umm
..that was you, right??? You're a funny guy. A Funny Guy From Maine, good
name for a new sitcom eh?
Thank you to Bill for being Bill. I love your wit and humor, not to mention the
fact that you really impressed me when you alphabatized all the Dick Clark
cards they gave us at dinner.
Thank you to Arwen for proving that even blondes can be rocket science material.
You're one classy lady.
Thank you to Russ for being your adorable widdle self ;)
(Will someone please take the damn remote control away from him?) We're done
watching camel racing.
Thank you to Rick for being the definition of a gentleman. It was a pleasure to
meet you. :)
Thank you to Jean for having the perfect blend of high-brow and down to earth
personality. You realize those clove cigarettes looked like a condom

Boy..that turned into a mess.....
Thank you to Norden for making me blush..guess you'll all have to wonder how
that happened. It was great meeting you!
Thank you to Zig, Sparky, Elaine, Frood, Rug. Everyone was very nice.
And lastly, but definately not leastly, Thank you to Di...wow..I don't know
what else to say except you're the greatest. I laughed and cried more with
you this weekend than anything. You are an exceptional lady and friend and I
love you. Thank you for being there for me. ((hugs))

Hey gang,
Well, I just got back to the home-20 after a fine plane ride and fine company.
We had a great time in Columbus and, as I told Liz this morning, I really,
really, really appreciate the work she and Manny did on organizing a bash at a
fine hotel in the beginning of tourist seaosn. I was finely able to meet
Heidi and Rona, and was shocked to hear about Bruce..(gonn miss ya, buddy..we
had some good times here and at Tahoe.., and Sandy, if you read this, I really
sorry for your loss..:( My, and other folks' hopes and prayers are with you..)
As a small note, after me and Adam had our goodbyes and such' in the Atrium, we
went to find our shuttle to the airport. The desk manager came and told us that
it left about 2:15 and won't be back til about 3pm. So, he called a taxi for
us, the hotel paid, and we finally left the hotel a few minutes after 3pm
anyway...:) :::sigh:::..at least the flights were on time and quite smooth...
Anyway, thx again to Liz and Manny for everything and to all of you who were
there to make this bash memorable. We have yet to' find a name for it.
"Columbus I" might be a start..:)

Liz and Manny. what a show you guys put on. Wtg Liz on all the hard work
getting things lined up for everybody:).
It was nice to add a few more faces to the list of names that appear on screen
all the time. HQR, Rona, Hi, Adaml, and of course Liz. The golf outing was
very fun even though I still should have counted that one par 5 hole as a
gimmee. I appreciate Manny pointing out where all the water hazards were so
that could make sure I didn't miss out on a chance to lose as many balls in
each and every drop of water we ran across.
The food from everywhere was very good. Cheddar's and of course Dick Clark's
American Bandstand Grill stand out. (thanks for the dessert menu, ahem Di).
Now I wish I would have come in on thursday to go to the Rock and Roll Hall
of Fame. Since the second outing took off as we were playing golf. Lot's of
great new memories and one sad one to remember this one for.
I now have all my bash pictures on the home puter. So for any of those bashers
interested in getting a set of them on a cd. To recall some blank spots. Let
me know and I'll fire up a disk and send em off to you. From what I saw on the
road signs though, they kept saying Cleaveland was CLOSED. They must have
snuck in the back way to get to the hall of fame.

Great bash
From: BENANAS To: ALL
I was going to put this in my last post but that wound up being longer than
expected so I'll put it here.
First, thanks so much to Manny and Liz for organizing the bash. I had a great
time; it was really one of my favorite bashes.
I really liked the Embassy Suites, even if the air conditioning wasn't strong
enough in the party room.
I thought it was a really neat, comfortable place with that atrium.
The indoor/outdoor pool was great and it's hard to fault a place with such
generous complimentary cocktail hours and breakfasts.
The best thing, of course, was the company. I had the pleasure of renewing old
friendships and getting to know people better, along with meeting some new
friends.
Really enjoyed those hearts games. Actually picked up a few pointers from
Paul, even if he couldn't best Sparky or Jean in those games we played.
Arlene's card dealing was very, er, interesting and made the singing by Di,
the human jukebox, sound authoritative by comparison.
Enjoyed talking with everyone else and I apologize if I've been rambling on
too much...It's been quite a day.
After eating breakfast sandwiched between Manny and Solo at the hotel,
I flew back to New Jersey, saw all the wonderful work Valerie did around the
house while I was away, and then went to the newspaper to work my normal
Sunday shift.
Normally I take Sunday off on a bash weekend, but this year I'm trying to save
my vacation days for the trip to Romania so I figured I could fly back from
Ohio and work in the same day. A long day, but it worked out ok. I think I'll
end it now.

KUDOS to Liz and Manny for arranging a terrific bash.
It was great seeing old friends and meeting f2f the bash newbies.
I had an interesting trip home. My plane was at 11:30am so wanted to get
to the airport at 10:30am and the van left at x:30am so I was on it at
9:30am ancipating a lenghty stay at the 'port.
When I checked in I was told I could get a flight at 10:30am since it was
behind due to the fact that the crew hadn't gotten there on time this
morning. Turned out it was a 7:30am flight originally and was almost empty
since those who had reservations on it to begin with had long since gone to
other airlines so they could make their connections.
So I was home much earlier than I had thought I would be.
Don't know how Liz managed to set that up, but thanks :)

From: HQR To: GAYDECEIVERX (NR)
Hi,
I had not seen your message prior to my departure for the Bash, and
I did not know you were a resident of Brookville, where I did, in fact,
stop at a motel last Tuesday. If I remember the town for anything, it
will be for the following: Being from the weird state of N.J., which
has no self-serve gas stations, when I travel, I always look for a full-
serve station. I had no trouble finding one anywhere else I stopped.
In Brookville, however, the Holiday Inn staff couldn't tell me where one
was located. So, I visited, in person, the AAA office, the chamber of
commerce, and the police station. In each place, I was told "None
anywhere around here." Finally, I gave up and went to a self-serve
station. Afterward, however, making conversation with a skinny little
counter girl in Arby's, who didn't even look old enough to drive, I
joked about my plight. To which the kid replied: "Oh, I know where
there's one. It's up on the hill." Well, I already had my gas, so I
didn't pursue the location of the "hill", but I found it interesting
that the kid knew when all the others didn't. Do you know where the
"hill" and its gas station are?

get to Brookville that often and when I do I use the self-serve stations. If
you ever may pass through again, and know in advance, let me know. We will
find the full-serve station together. LOL.
Why don't they trust people in N.J. to fill their own gas tanks or is it a way
to get the drivers to pay more for gasoline?

Bash Notes
From: K91718 To: ALL
HQR's Bash Notes:
First of all, let me add my major kudos in the direction of Liz and Manny for
the initiative, spirit and organization, not to mention effort, that they put
into the Bash. I enjoyed myself very much. If I had a few problems with the
hotel service, and if I had a few personal disappointments (for example, my
failure to show for the golf game), these things were no reflection whatever
on Team Magno, who did a terrific job.
There were only a few of us present on Saturday morning, and I don't know to
whom Liz repeated this subsequently, so I hope she doesn't mind if I repeat
it: It seems Liz had a dream on Friday night, in which she, Paul (!) and Liz's
kids were all desperately attempting to escape the destruction of an
approaching tornado. At the end of the dream, all were safe. Having attained a
small reputation at school as an amateur interpreter of dreams, I offer the
thought that Liz's tornado represents us Bashers, and the association of Paul
and the kids represents Liz's anxiety about the task of seeing both family and
Bash safely through an intense weekend. Liz may always seem to keep her cool
(except possibly when losing at cribbage), but I think we can all understand
and appreciate the commotion and uncertainty occasioned for the event's
organizer by the whirlwind arrival of Bashers. That said, however, the one
thing I don't quite understand is Paul's position in this dream, as a
potential victim rather than as part of the storm. Is he simply a stand-in for
Manny, representing Manny's "trivia" side rather than his "husband" side? (And
if so, why specifically Paul?) Or is it perhaps Paul's well known childlike
innocence that sets him apa
I was very glad to meet for the first time Di, Heidi, Rachel, Rona, Russ and
Ziggy. It was also great to see again the people I already knew. I am pretty
much on my own during the summer months, except for on-line, and it was a fine
way to begin the season with some real-people group interaction. I appreciate
very much being included.
Having implied criticism of Embassy Suites earlier, I would like to applaud
the architecture of the place, as well as their complimentary breakfast and
happy hour. The location of the rooms in view of each other surrounding an
atrium, combined with the built-in free events that inevitably drew people
together into that central place of focus, added, for me at least, an
interesting element of community to our proceedings. Also, with each suite
having an outer room to act as noise buffer between the building's center and
the bedrooms, one could get one's rest despite the presence in the hotel of a
multiplicity of tornadoes of various stripes. (It wasn't just us!)
I have a few additional random thoughts which I will put in another post. Just
once again, thanks much to Liz and Manny, and great seeing everyone.

Random Bash Thoughts:
1) First of all the paragraph about Liz's dream seems to have been
cut off. What I said was:
Or is it perhaps Paul's well known childlike innocence that sets
him apart somehow as endangered by the rest of us malicious evildoers.
There may well be some therapeutic elucidation needed here. but I will
leave these issues to Liz and a shrink of her choice. I will simply add
that this particular portion of the tornado ( i.e. the part known as HQR)
is glad to have had the chance to whirl a bit and whip up a little dust,
and that it hopes that, at the completion of the weekend, Liz's wish for
safety for all was fulfilled.
2) Of all the people I hadn't met before, Russ wins the prize as
the one least like my mental pictures. I had him pictured as older and
bald. Hmmm.
3) Who'da thunk that Rachel would be more rambunctious than Heidi?
I'd nevera thunk it. But it was that way when I was present at least..
Of course, Heidi was under the weather. And Rachel was ...?
4) Di is a very good cribbage player. Manny's cribbage game is
much improved since I last saw him. I expect to be able to make one or
the other of those statements about Ziggy at our next encounter.
5) Congratulations to Ben and Valerie on their soon-to-arrive
family addition. I wish them all the best.
6) Heidi does not tell the truth when she says I hit on her in the
movies. I merely threatened to. Actually, I left a seat vacant between
me and her in case I had trouble resisting the temptation. I also left a
seat vacant between me and Norden at the previous day's movie. I did not
so much as threaten to hit on him.
7) When I made advance plans for a 3-day drive out to the Bash, with
a stop scheduled in in Canton to see the Football Hall of Fame, I used my
Road Atlas and an 8-year-old motel listing to try to find a place to
stay the first night somewhere about 300 miles or a bit more from home.
I settled on a Holiday Inn in Brookville, Pa., which I estimated via the
atlas as being about 322 miles from home. I was surprised, upon my
arrival in the motel parking lot, that the trip mileage indicator in my
car read exactly 300 miles on the dot, exactly the distance I had hoped
to approximate. I figured it would be pretty hard to beat that degree
of exactitude. However,
8) When I made advance plans for a 2-day drive back from the Bash,
the goal was to divide the two days' driving into roughly equal parts.
I settled on a Quality Inn in Bedford, Pa., as being about 312 miles
from Columbus, leaving me with 304 miles (still as estimated via the
atlas) for today's last leg home. When I pulled into the motel
parking lot in Bedford, the mileage indicator read 274 miles. Having
reset the indicator before leaving the motel this morning, I pulled up
in front of my house and saw that the trip mileage read once again
274 miles. I would really like to know the odds on that happening.
Especially since I was quite far off in my estimates of distance (a
discrepancy caused, I have discovered, by the fact that some of the
numbers in the atlas that appear to indicate miles really indicate
something else, although I haven't figured out what). Weird.

Adam's Not So Excellent Adventure
From: ADAML To: ALL
-or-
How to fly from Columbus, Ohio, to Portland, Maine, in just under 23 hours
1) Have a thoroughly enjoyable time at a Trivia Bash. Get to renew old
acquaintances and meet new faces. Easily the most important step.
2) Arrange a 2:30 p.m. shuttle from your Embassy Suites Hotel to the Columbus
Airport. Learn that it left five minutes early, have hotel call a cab. Wait 25
minutes for it to arrive.
3) Check in for 5:30 p.m. flight at Columbus airport. Arrive at gate. Instead
of getting on plane at 5:30 p.m., learn that plane has not even left from its
starting point because of weather.
4) Wait for flight to arrive and hear the following announcement: "All
passengers on flight 1234 to Philadelphia who are making connections should
please come to the check-in counter to rebook their flights except Albany and
Portland, Maine. Those flights are delayed also and we will get you to Philly
in time." Think: "OK, cool."
5) Depart Columbus approx. 7:30 p.m. Arrive Philly approx. 8:40 p.m. Realize
that flights from Columbus and to Portland are, in no uncertain terms, in the
two gates furthest away from another.
6) Move at top speed from Gate C28 to Gate B14. Arrive at Gate B14 at 8:48p.m.
Read that 8:50 p.m. flight to Portland has left. Learn that there are no more
flights to Maine from Philly this evening. Avoid flipping out at counterperson
who arranges hotel accomodations and 7:30 a.m. flight to Portland via Boston.
7) Wait 15-20 minutes for shuttle to Airport Hilton "that runs every four or
five minutes". Arrive at Hilton get a room. Go to Hilton Sports Bar and get a
lousy cheesesteak with poor service and learn that USAirways voucher doesn't
cover two already-drunk beers.
8) Return to room at 11 p.m. and set wake-up call for 5:45 a.m. Answer wake-up
call, take a shower, put clothes from yesterday back on because luggage
arrived in Maine way before you did. Catch 6:20 a.m. hotel shuttle to airport
for 7:30a.m. flight to Boston.
9) Arrive at airport. Check departure monitors and learn that 7:30 a.m. flight
to Boston has been cancelled because of some sickeningly vague reason. Badger
airport attendant into getting a First Class ticket on 10:10 a.m. flight
directly from Philly to Portland.
10) Eat breakfast. Return to gate at 9 a.m. to see it overrun by 12-16 year
old summer campers. Board plane at 9:40 a.m. in First Class.
11) Have plane held up at 10:10 a.m. so that two passengers flying stand-by
can get on. Turn down free tickets to give up your seat.
12) Relax when plane starts to taxi at 10:25 a.m. Get upset when it returns to
gate at 10:27 a.m. Hear pilot announce computer equipment failure with the
following statement: "It could be one of two things. One of them is very easy
to fix, the other very difficult." At 11:15 a.m., learn that it will be another
half-hour to take off.
13) Take off from Philly at 11:45 a.m. Arrive Portland 12:45 p.m. Get in car,
arrive Lewiston at 1:30 p.m., 22.5 hours after leaving hotel in Columbus, Ohio.
And there you have it. A very long ending to a very successful bash. Thanks to
Liz and Manny for being great hosts and to everyone else for being generally
fun people to hang out with, even if some of you do belch a lot and others are
fixated on their new boats ;)

bash pictures are now up.
From: MSWENSON To: ALL
Hiyas Folks:
A good news bad news thing. Depends on how you want to look at it.
I have some pictures from the recent bash in Columbus loaded onto my
web page. For anyone interested in taking a look at them. You can start
off with the same old address. (homepage.midusa.net/~mswenson) or go right
to the spot (people.delphi.com/mswenson/columbus.htm). I may or may not have
gotten a little carried away with how many I stuck on this thing. But I
wanted to make sure everybody got to see at least one picture of all of the
attendees. So it may take a little bit to get loaded up. but from my first
look at it,all went pretty quick.
Not a real fancy page again which is what more of is needed on personal pages.
Hope you enjoy the pictures and those of you that look at them can see what
you missed out on:).

My First Bash
From: RONAS To: ALL
The bash was wonderful. It was a delight to meet so many triviots!
From being met at the airport by Liz and Bill (er... I mean Mr. P49, Sir)
to eating breakfast the last morning with Arwen and Norden, the
weekend was filled with adventures and fun. I have memories that
will cause nightmares for the est of my life. Oooops... I mean
wonderful memories that I will cherish forever...
.. riding to the movie in the back of Norden's car (he assured us
there was plenty of room for five in the car) and feeling very "close"
to Paul who sat in the middle...
.. talking to two nice people in the lobby the first night and
meeting them the next day and finding out they were Rug and Frood...
.. discussing full service gas stations with HQR and reminiscing
about how young I was the last time I saw one of them...
.. watching Ziggy with his digital camera (never realizing that the
pictues were going to go public!)...
..searching for fireflies with Frood and listening to the Turtles
on the CD in her car...
.. talking to Heidi (*smooch*) and Rachel about their visit to the
Rock and Roll Fall of Fame in Cleveland (then going there AND the
Hard Rock Cafe with Norden and Arwen)...
..watching Arlene run her trivia game and laughing so hard that I
thought I was going to fall off the chair...
.. talking with Jean about her cross country trip...
.. meeting Russ for the first time even though we live in the same
state and he still owes me a Hershey bar...
.. playing Where's Antonio? with the pictures that Arlene had
of her trip...
.. talking with Adam about sports (and cartoons) and sports...
.. watching Ben and Sparky and the other card players...
.. shopping for bash beverages with Liz and Arwen and Di (and having
them assure me that all that beer was going to be gone before the
weekend was over)...
.. sharing a room with Elaine and Arwen (thanks, ladies!)...
.. standing outside the bash room on the last night with Solo
and Manny (and others... you know who you are!) talking about people
at the previous bashes. That's when I realized that I'd have to keep
going to bashes for the rest of my life... or I'll be one of the
people that's being talked about!
Thanks to everyone for welcoming me so warmly. See you at the next one!

LOVED those pictures Ziggy. Thanks so much for sharing. Darn good photography
too. Now I will know all those people when I see them on the street - Not!
But seriously how wonderful to put a face with those screennames. Looks like
you guys had a great bash. I saw that atrium and said to myself. Yes, I could
be very comfortable here....
