TRIVIA CLUB
-----------------------
This club is designed to be a place for people who love trivia to have some
fun, meet new people, share some laughter, and most importantly PLAY TRIVIA
GAMES AGAINST SOME OF THE BEST COMPETITION ANYWHERE.
The Trivia Club's main attraction are the games themselves. Each night of the
week, games are hosted in the Trivia Conference Area by members of the club.
Each games is run by a Host, who asks the questions and a Score-keeper who
keeps track of the points.
We have many different types of games that we offer... from general knowledge
trivia to games revolving around a specific theme to games with different
variations on our basic rules.
We invite everyone to participate in our games... they are open to the general
public. The more, the merrier!
TRIVIA CLUB GAME RULES
----------------------------------
Each game in the Triva Club is run by one of our members, referred to as the
game Host. Another member will also keep the score of the game. This person is
(oddly enough) called the "scorekeeper". :>
Each game will last 90 minutes and feature a short half-time break during
which the Scorekeeper will recap all the scores from the first half. At the end
of the game the Scorekeeper will list the players and their scores.
The Host and Scorekeeper type in all capital letters in an effort to make it
easier to see their words on screen. This is so that the players don't miss a
question or the points awarded. If you are not hosting a game, please be
courteous of the other players and don't use all caps.
The way the game actually runs:
The host will as a question. Once the question has appeared, all players may
answer the question simply be typing their answer and hitting the ENTER key.
Approximately 8-12 seconds after the Host has sent the question out, he will
send out a ***** BUZZER *****. Any correct answers that appear between the
Host's question and buzzer will be awarded a point.
If only one correct answer appears between the question and buzzer, then that
player will earn 3 points. (A Triple :)
Only one answer may be sent by each player before the host sounds the first
buzzer. If no one has answered correctly, then the host will indicate that by
sending a KEEP GOING... (or something to that effect) line and will allow
additional time for continuing guesses at the answer. This additional time is
a free-for-all. Players may answer as many times as they like after the first
buzzer but only the player sending in the FIRST correct answer will be awarded
any points.
And that's basically it. The games are pretty simple in concept and that makes
for a fun time for all.
Come over to the conference area and try it... we think you'll like it a lot.

especially the use of ScoreMaster.
SCOREKEEPING by HAND
ScoreKeeping Information Page as compiled by SoloFlex8, BillP49, & NickLaz
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Job Description
The job of the scorekeeper (SK) is to keep an accurate tally of the
points scored during the course of the game for each player and to provide
a recap of the scores at the half and at the end of each game.
The SK should contribute to the overall friendly atmosphere during
the game by always welcoming new players. Ideally, a welcome macro of some
type should be used. Also, the SK should assist the Host in answering any
questions new players might have about how to play the game, on becoming
a Host or SK, or just about the Trivia Club in general.
2. Suggested Materials For Keeping Score in a Trivia Game! :D
The basic materials to keep score in a game are: paper & pencil.
I prefer to keep score with 2 ball point pens and a sheet of unruled paper.
Although, you can use anything really...This can be expanded to include
fancy paper, like an accountant's sheet, thick poster board, or even graph
paper, but all you really need are some pieces of plain-old-ruled paper
and a writing implement of some type! :D
2. The Set-Up Mode!
List the name of the players down the left hand side of the paper
and you're ready! You can put them on your page as they come into the room
before the game starts. This way there is no delay or wasted time during
the game. You can always erase the names of people who leave without
scoring a point. If you anticipate a large crowd, you may want to stagger
the names down the left side in roughly alphabetical order. This may
help you more quickly locate a player to assign a point.
3. How to Record Points.
When a player get his/her first 1 point correct answer, write a
number "1" next to the player's name. When the player gets another correct
answer, cross out the "1" and write a "2". Continue with this process
throughout the game. This method provides you with an accurate listing of
each player's points at any time during the game. It also saves the time
of tallying points before halftime or the end of the game as if you were
using plain tick marks.
4. First Helpful Hint. ;)
There's no need to wait for the host's point line when recording
points. That only delays the game and most players prefer a reasonably short
interval between questions. Once the host posts the correct answer to the
question on screen, you can begin awarding points. If you find an answer
questionable, and are not sure that the host will give the player a point,
put a small mark on your sheet and look for that name in the points line to
see if the host gave the player a point. If using, WinScore point as you see
correct at the time, if you find you missed one, just correct during the
scoring of the next question. Overall, you'll probably find that the
judgment of the host and yourself is just about the same! :D
5. Recapping the Scores.
Scores should be recapped always from lowest to highest. At half
don't assign players places or rankings. Just the point level and the
associated names are enough for halftime. At the end of the game you can
list all the players with points, if you want, but only the Top Seven spots
are required. These should be ranked also. That is, "7th place with 23
points: Player1, 6th place with 24 points:...etc." Top Seven spots refers to
the points and not to the players; as you could have 15 players (or more)
in the Top Seven point spots.
6. A Second Helpful Hint. ;)
Some SK's find it easier to make a new scoring sheet at halftime.
This gives them a new uncluttered sheet on which to work. Also, some SK's
prefer to re-list the players from highest points to lowest points. As the
players with the most points in the first half tend to be the ones scoring
the most in the second half. I highly recommend that you Hand SK's
seriously consider this hint, as it can sometimes help to speed up the game.
7. Things to Remember While Skeeping.
The SK should be almost an invisible assistant to the Host. Keeping
score properly and quickly aids the flow of the game. More than likely, you
don't like to wait for the SK when you're playing so neither will the
players, when you've got the power of the pencil! :D Take the time you need
to record the points accurately, so don't engage in conversation after a
question until you've recorded the points.
8. Last Helpful Hint: Disputes N' Stuff. ;)
It is the Host's Game. The host has the final word on who does or
doesn't meet the criteria to receive a point, PAT, or Triple. If the host
awards a PAT but has overlooked something obvious like a correct answer
before time, send the host a Private Message. Never Dispute the Host in
public. Also, as always, the host's sources for information are always
deemed to be correct and final. Never engage in or join a dispute over the
accuracy of an answer. In conjunction with Online Disputes, if the host
has missed something, anything you seem to think is important, send him
a Private Message then, or just wait until halftime. More likely than not,
he's just accidentally missed it. ;) Whether you agree or not with the Host,
you should always support the host in these matters.
9. Posting the Scores.
The final responsibility of a SK in a game, is to post the results
of the game in the forum. The post should be made in the Game Results
Topic. The post should ideally be made within the 30 minutes time in
between most games. The post should include the name of the Host, the name
of the SK, when the game occurred (day&time), and a word or two about the
game's theme or subject would be helpful. In addition all players scoring
points should be listed, with some sort of marker separating the Top Seven
places, for this will make Sarah's job in collecting the Ratings much
easier. ;)
10. Sample Game Post for Skeeps.
I would like to attempt to standarize the reporting of the game
results in the forum.
: (Host's Name)'s, (Game Name, if there is one) at
Scorekeeper:
(You just want to type in
things that will attract others to play in the Host's game in near
future.)
Here are the Results:
with 13 points: Nick (+p) /
with 17 points: BillP49 / Manny /
with 31 points: Ken(OBERLIN) /
-TOP SEVEN!-
with 32 points: Matt(DVOIT) /
** There would be 6 more places below Matt's
name. **
(List all the players and their points. When reporting the players
names try to do so accurately. If they are using a "." name make an attempt
to record their handle e.g. .Matt(DVOIT), if they are fairly new. If they
are established players who always use the same "." name, then doesn't make
any difference.)
I personally like to see some sort of marking for PATS and Triples
right after the player's name, but after the points line is okay, too! ;)
After the scores and triple/pat markings, make sure to thank
everyone including the host for coming, staying, and playing the game.
Game results should be reported as soon after the game as you find
it convenient. The most cost effective way to do it is to compose your
report off-line in a word or text processor, save it as a text file, go
on line to the point where you'd usually write your report and do an ASCII
copy and paste.
The methods discussed above for keeping score in a trivia game are
the most popular ones amongst the experienced and fast SK's. However, the
REAL BOTTOM LINE for being an accurate, fast, and quality SK is: What Works
Best For You! :D You should experiment with a variety of styles and see
what makes the best of your ability.
11. Running With The Ball With The Goal Line In Sight.
The purpose of the Trivia Club is to provide entertainment to our
customers, the players. :D We want everyone to have a fun and enjoyable
experience while they play on-line trivia. This, more than the the
competitiveness, will bring them back again and again! :D The SK should work
in conjunction with the Host to create a fun and friendly environment for
our players. :D
12. Oh, and Before We Forget. ;)
Thanks for expressing your interest in being a SK for the Trivia
Club. We appreciate your involvement and your willingness and dedication
to making Delphi Trivia the best online Trivia in cyberspace! :D If you have
any questions or concerns, please contact Opal or BillP49 for general SK
info via E-mail or track us down on-line! We're here to help you if you need us!
Thanks Again!!! :D :D :D :D
