INTRODUCTION

In my work on the Kuhl family I became interested in the Kays since they were the descendants of Peter Kuhl of Mills Co. IA via his daughter Margaretha Kuhl who married Joachim Kay. Viola Bichel's Mineola Then and Now provided me with the birthplace of Joachim Kay; since it was in the same general area from which the Kuhls came, it was a simple procedure to have the local church records searched for information on the Kays. My Kuhl booklet introduction deals with the general geographical area and its history. Although the village the Kays were from, Hohenfelde, was not within the boundaries of the Probstei; it is only three miles to the south east of Stakendorf, the home village of the Kuhls. In this work I have treated forenames in the same manner as in the Kuhl booklet. The surname Kay is spelled in several ways in the various documents I have used: "Kay", "Cai", "Kai" [marriage record of Joachim Kay and Margaretha Kuhl at Davenport(Scott)IA Dec 1866], and "Cuy" (census record of Scott Co. IA 1870]. A chart here presents the involved relationships among the Kuhls, Kay, Bebensees, Bichels, and Kruses and this chart delineates the Kays treated here, the numbers referring to the text. *** NAME INDEX *** Kay GEDCOM zipped
