State of Connecticut
County of Hartford
On the 5th day of October 1833 personally appeared
in open Court before the Court of
Probate for the District of Granby in the State of
Connecticut now sitting Thomas Giddings a
Resident of the Town of Hartland in the County
or Hartford and State of Connecticut aged
80 years who being duly sworn according
to law doth on his oath make the following
declaration in order to obtain the benefit of
the Act of Congress passed June 7th 1832.
That he entered the Service of the United States
under the following named officers and served
as herein stated

Simsbury to New Haven and embarked on board
of vessel and landed at New York was stationed
in New York three or four weeks. Then marched
to Harlem was then put to making entrench-
ments ditchings etc. and was discharged in
the Month of November 1776 ---------------------

To the Interrogatories as proscribed by the War
Department Thomas Giddings answers under oath
as follows
1st he was born at in the Town of Lyme in Connecticut
on the 29th day of August 1753

5th He recollects General Shepard who relieved the
troops at Peekskill, was in Gen Erastus Wolcott’s
Brigade - recollects seeing General Washington
at New York & Gen McDougal.
